Adventure Mountain Gerlitzen Alpe

A mountain full of possibilities

A true hiking, paragliding, and relaxation paradise. Gerlitzen Alpe is a popular destination both in winter and summer. It is the southernmost mountain in the famous Nockberge range in Carinthia, with an elevation of 1,911 meters above sea level. From gentle alpine meadows to the summit, it's perfect for mountain hiking and strolling on 147 kilometers of high-altitude trails. Moreover, it offers breathtaking views of the Carinthian lakes and the majestic rocky peaks of the Karawanken and Julian Alps. The entire mountain can be wonderfully explored on foot, and many delightful alpine huts provide the perfect setting for a break. Authentic Carinthian specialties await tasting. For those seeking adventure, the "Erlebnisarena Kanzelhöhe" at the middle station of the Kanzelbahnen offers exciting activities.

Mountain cable cars

Only a 20-minute drive separates Lake Ossiach from the summit of Gerlitzen Alpe. In summer, from mid-May to mid-October, the Kanzelbahn with gondolas for four people and the 4-seater chairlift with hoods transport visitors daily to the 1,911-meter-high summit. For holders of the Kärnten Card, the ascent and descent are free once per day.

Paragliding

At an altitude of 1,911 meters on Gerlitzen Alpe, the unique paragliding experience takes off. With the assistance of the thermals from Lake Ossiach, you can glide down towards the valley like a feather. Simply wonderful! Adventure Arena Kanzelhöhe

The "Erlebnisarena Gerlitzen" offers numerous exciting hiking alternatives for the whole family: kids' bike trails, summer tubing fun on the slide track, wooden ball run for little explorers, 4-person bungee trampoline, mini electric go-karts for little racers, and a forest high ropes course.

Forest high ropes course

The "Adventurepark Gerlitzen" is Carinthia's largest forest high ropes course, with 15 courses and over 160 stations. It is only a 30-minute walk from Mountain Resort Feuerberg, located at the middle station of the Kanzelbahn. An adventure for young and old, at heights ranging from 1 to 18 meters. Take on the challenge!

The Path of the planets

Why is Mars red? How big is Jupiter? And what distinguishes stars from planets? You will find the answers to these and many other exciting questions on the new "Weg der Planeten" - the Path of the planets. 

This interactive themed trail on the Gerlitzen Alpe invites you on a unique journey through our solar system. Begin your adventure at the edge of the solar system with Neptune and hike past all the planets until you reach the Sun, located at the solar observatory on Kanzelhöhe. Along the way, you’ll cover an astonishing 160 billion kilometers — at least in scale. In reality, the trail is just under 2 kilometers long.

The Planet Trail is perfect for families and anyone fascinated by outer space!

You can reach the adventure arena in just over an hour on foot.


Starting point: From the Almlounge, head uphill toward Schönfeld and follow the Kanzelweg trail to the middle station. Please note: do not turn toward the Pöllingerhütte when on the Kanzelweg. Instead, follow the trail downhill until you reach the ski slope — from there, it’s just a few more meters to the adventure arena.
